“Andrew Sheret

Mr. Andrew Sheret, a pioneer businessman in Victoria before the turn of the century, passed away on Friday at the age of 76.  Although he had lived much in retirement during the last seven years at his country home at Ardmore, Mr. Sheret was widely known and esteemed in the business community and in much wider fields than that. A member of the Senior’s Northwest Golf Association, he was an enthusiastic follower of the game and a member of three clubs in the region.

Born at Montrose, Scotland in 1870, Mr. Sheret came to Victoria 56 years ago. A year later, in 1892, he launched the business which is now known as Andrew Sheret Ltd., wholesale distributors of plumbing and heating supplies with branches in coastal cities. He was an early member of the former Board of Trade and continued in association with the Chamber of Commerce that took its place. He was a prominent member of the Kiwanis Club, of Columbia Lodge No. 2, I.O.O.F. and of the Victoria-Columbia Lodge No. 1 A.F. & A.M. In 1943 was honored with a life membership in the American Society of Heating and Ventilation Engineers.

Although Mr. Sheret had been in ill health for some time, word of his passing will be learned with sincere regret throughout the community.”
