Henry Nathan (1842-1914) was a member of Victoria Lodge No. 1085 (now Victoria-Columbia Lodge No. 1).

When British Columbia joined Confederation with Canada in 1871, Henry Nathan was acclaimed as one of Victoria’s first two Members of Parliament (the other was Amor de Cosmos, who was also a Freemason). Henry Nathan was the first Jewish Member of Parliament in Canada.

He was a Liberal M.P. and supported Prime Minister Sir John A. MacDonald (also a Freemason).

He was a prominent member of Victoria’s Congregation Emanu-El, the oldest synagogue in Western Canada.

Henry Nathan retired from politics at the 1874 federal election. He returned to England where he died in 1914.
