The Crystal Garden was designed and built in 1925 by architects Francis Mawson Rattenbury and Percy Leonard James , a member of Henderson Lodge No. 84, for the Canadian Pacific Railway, which intended it as a convention and entertainment center for its Empress Hotel, which stands across Douglas Street.

The Crystal Garden is listed on the Canadian Register of Historic Places.
